Official RealVNC Viewer For Android Hits The Market

The RealVNC’s “Personal Edition” desktop software costs $30, which sounds astounding high, considering there is a free version of the RealVNC software for Windows. Despite the price the version lacks several nifty features, never mind the Android viewer client doesn’t support most of them.
This app is probably a must-have if your workplace uses VNC Enterprise. However, RealVNC desktop software isn’t OS X-friendly, unless you’re using VNC Enterprise, so you would have to use an alternative VNC server (OS X’s built-in Remote Desktop) for the RealVNC Android viewer to work with your Apple machine.
Setup instructions for RealVNC:
Step 1: Download VNC Viewer from the Android Market
Step 2: If the computer you want to control is running Mac OS X 10.4 or later, enable Apple Remote Desktop/Remote Management. If not, install and start a VNC-compatible Server
Step 3: If you are connecting over the Internet (via 3G), configure firewalls and routers protecting the computer to allow and forward network communications to it. Start with www.realvnc.com/products/android/1.0. If you are connecting over a Wi-Fi-enabled private network (LAN or VPN), you should be able to connect without further configuration.
Step 4: Find out the network address of the computer. If connecting over the Internet, it will be that of a router. You will also need a port number if the VNC-compatible Server is listening on a port other than the default for VNC, 5900 (not necessary for Apple Remote Desktop/Remote Management).
Step 5: Start VNC Viewer, identify the computer you want to control, and connect
Viola! Your are up and running!

Rumor: Android 2.4 in April as a Gingerbread Update

It seems that rumors of Android 2.4  are back, but in a different form than we'd heard before. Rather than 2.4 as the next named release, Ice Cream Sandwich, word now is that it'll be an incremental Gingerbread release, as when 2.1 updated 2.0 but retained the Eclair name. In interview with Pocket-lint, a Viewsonic representative said that this 2.4 update will be on their upcoming ViewPad 4 phone, set for release in April.
The Viewsonic insider went on to say that the 2.4 update will be specifically to "ensure compatibility with dual-core apps." Many have interpreted this to mean it will ensure apps designed for Honeycomb will run on Gingerbread phones, but Honeycomb itself does not require a dual core processor, so it seems to be a different distinction.
The rumor further muddies the question of whether Google will ever endorse Honeycomb for phones, and, if true, leaves us with no idea when a version named Ice Cream Sandwich might appear, and what version number it might have.

HTC Droid Incredible 2: White With Chrome Rim, Contoured Back, Global 3G [RUMOR]

It seems we’ve hit the Verizon Wireless rumor motherload with info one of the hottest sequels you could imagine. Listen up folks, this stuff is hot off the presses from one of our trusted sources.

HTC Droid Incredible 2 with Global 3G

The first HTC Incredible has been one of the most successful Android Phones to date. It’s incredibly versatile and can be considered top of the line with nearly every target market – I found myself recommending it to men, women, teens and everyone in between. Now I’ll be recommending the HTC Incredible 2 (codenamed Vevo) to world travelers as the Incredible 2 comes with Global 3G Connectivity. This could be thanks to a new Qualcomm chip that supports both HSPA and CDMA.
But that’s not all… apparently the Droid Incredible 2 will be white with a white chrome rim and contoured back. Tell me that won’t make for a bad ass sequel to the original DINC!
We’ll keep you posted as we get more details and hopefully pictures to boot. These are still rumors as of now… but we have very good reason to believe their absolutely true and we’re eager to bring you evidence. Stay tuned!

Droid 3, Droid X2, Samsung Stealth Also Coming To Verizon Q2 [RUMOR]

We just provided the exclusive rumored details of the Droid Incredible 2 and it seems some other popular Verizon Androids are coming in the very near future, too. One of our trusted tipsters is telling us the Droid 3 and Droid X2 will both come in the 2nd Quarter along with the Samsung Stealth. Here are some details we’ve learned of each:
  • Motorola Droid 3: 4-inch screen with QHD resolution (960 by 540 pixel resoultion - same as Bionic), slideout QWWERTY keyboard
  • Motorola Droid X2: Didn’t gather any details
  • Samsung Stealth: This is the Samsung 4G LTE as seen at CES
The Droid 3 and Droid X 2 are sure to turn some heads if not only because their predecessors commanded the attention of the masses. I don’t doubt these versions will be equally as exciting. It seems like we’ve hit a motherload of Verizon Wireless rumors and now we’ll eagerly await hard evidence in the form of pictures and videos and hopefully official confirmation before long. Hey – Mobile World Congress is right around the corner so maybe it’ll be a short wait!

American Airlines launches Android app

American Airlines has had an app for Apple devices for a while now and has finally rolled out its Android app. This will be something that frequent fliers will want to grab to help them get details on their flights. The app is called the AA Android app.

The app allows the user to check in for flights, receive gate and seat information as well as flight status details. The app also has terminal maps and has lots of other features as well. One of the cooler features is a reminder that can be set for where you parked.
The app will allow the monitoring of the standby list for flights, elite status progress, and mobile boarding passes. The device also uses GPS to locate airports nearby that American serves. For the times when you are stuck in the terminal, it also has Sudoku to keep you busy. The app is free to download.

Dell to create a 10 inch Android tablet

Dell is diving into the tablet market with both feet with a 10 inch Android Tablet as part of their “Dell Means Business” concept which promises the largest product lineup the company has ever launched.  Dell Android  tablet development is fresh off the suggestion that Dell is also creating a Windows 7 tablet in their effort to lure business into the realm of mobile computing beyond smartphones.
The Dell Means Business Product launch includes 39 products which include laptops, tablets, desktops, and workstations.  But the attention today was on the 10 inch Android Tablet and maybe a Windows Tablet 7, Dell is also showcasing the Dell Streak 5, 7 and Venue and Venue Pro smartphones.  There aren’t a lot of details, but speculation is that the tablet will run Android 2.2 (Froyo) to begin with and the Stage UI overlay.  That seems a little behind the power curve since Android 3 Honeycomb is the flavor of the month with the tablet scene.
