We have heard the Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 and 5.0 are coming to the U.S., but still not word on when. For now the 4.0 is launching in Russia and gradually in other countries, and the 5.0 is heading to Switzerland.
They are shipping with Android 2.2 Froyo, with the possibility to be upgraded to 2.3 Gingerbread.

BlackBerry Enterprise Solution coming to Android and iOS

Research In Motion (RIM) is making a bold move in that it plans on brining the BlackBerry Enterprise Solution (BES) to Android and iOS later this year.
Pending completion of the acquisition, Ubitexx’s ubi-Suite software for device management will be integrated with the management and security controls of BlackBerry Enterprise Server and BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express. This will support Android and iOs devices and tablets. This is in response to demand from enterprise customers for multi-platform support for BES.
This cannot be a surprise to anyone. RIM has already announced that the Playbook will support Android apps. This smartphone war is now between Google and Apple and RIM needed to do something before they lose more enterprise share. You know the old saying, “If you can’t beat them, join them.” That is exactly what RIM is doing and I applaud them for doing this instead of just sitting back and watching the demise.

Samsung Announces the Launch of their Galaxy S WiFi Media Players for Korea

Seemingly in the face of their recently started legal battle with Apple, Samsung has gone ahead and announced the launch of their two new Galaxy S media players.  Named 4.0 and 5.0 respectively, the naming simply reflects the sizing of their screens.

A quote from the facebook page where Samsung put an announcement up:

We’re pleased to announce the launch of the GALAXY S WiFi 4.0 and 5.0.
Complete with Android 2.2 “Froyo” for access to thousands of Android apps & 4’’ and 5’’ large, high quality screens, these handsets will provide the ultimate smartphone-like experience.

It is interesting to see their wording here, but make no mistake, this is a marketing move much like Apple has done with their iPhone/iPod Touch devices. The Galaxy S media players are everything the Galaxy S phones are, but without, well, the phones. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Super AMOLED Not Coming to Samsung Tablets Yet

If you are a fan of Samsung devices and have been hoping that Samsung would deliver their Super AMOLED display to their tablet devices it appears that you have a long wait ahead before seeing a Sammy tablet sporting a Super AMOLED.
According to an article over on Slash Gear by way of Korean site Ddaily, Samsung have shelved plans to bring Super AMOLED displays to their tablets, with a Samsung executive being quoted as saying…” the company now has no plans to use its Super AMOLED or Super AMOLED Plus in any imminent slates, likely due to delays at the 5.5-Gen production line.”
Apparently a new Samsung plant was expected to be up and running this year to produce 7-inch and up AMOLED panels for Samsung tablets, but component delay due to the Japan disaster have caused a delay.
So there you have it, for the foreseeable future anyway, you won’t be seeing a Super AMOLED tablet coming out of the Samsung camp.

BlackBerry PlayBook to get Video Chat and Facebook apps in May

Who's going to get the very first "tablet-optimized" Facebook app? Why, it's RIM and the PlayBook! The Canadian company has today revealed it's bringing a native Facebook app to its 7-inch, QNX-based slate, which will also be joined by a new Video Chat application. The latter will be available to download on May 3rd, with an over-the-air update dishing it out to current PlayBook owners. Its functionality will be no different from what we've come to expect from such clients -- both voice and video calls will be available anywhere you can find a a WiFi connection. As to the Facebook app, it's coming some time later in the month, and will let you view and add your friends, share photos and videos "seamlessly," access Facebook Chat, and view and interact with the news Feed. Both should be getting extensive demos at BlackBerry World, which is taking place this week, and we'll be sure to have a gander and report our findings.
