Download: The Official Droid Bionic Boot Animation

The elusive Droid Bionic is finally within weeks of release (it should drop September 8th for $299.99), but if you want to pretend you already have one for a moment or if your current boot animation is not a gorgeous fiery bionic eye (is such a thing even possible?), then download this official Droid Bionic boot animation and sound. It won't grow you an extra arm, but it will make you the coolest chap in town (not really).
Download (from our direct download mirrors - no popups, no ads):
Installation:
In general, root access shouldn't be required for installing custom boot animations. There are many ways of installing bootanimation.zip
As for Bionic.ogg, if you want the boot sound enabled, you'll have to figure out the place where it goes on your phone - most likely some directory under /system/media or /data/local.

New images of leaked parts reveal iPhone 4S antenna, iPhone 5 case back

Rumors that Apple plans to release an updated iPhone 4 model — referred to on tech blogs as the “iPhone 4S” — alongside the iPhone 5 this fall gained momentum on Thursday evening as images of purported iPhone 4S parts were published by MacRumors.com. The site says it received parts belonging to the iPhone 4S case from supplier iPatchiPods.com, an online iPhone and iPod repair shop. If these components are believed to be authentic, it appears as though the iPhone 4S will feature a redesigned antenna that may help alleviate attenuation resulting from the notorious “death grip.” In addition, MacPost published an image of what is purported to be the rear back from Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5. The redesigned white case back is said to be from a prototype device and it bears the model number “N94,” which we reported belongs to a forthcoming iPhone. MacPost also published several images of various supposed iPhone 5 parts we’ve already seen in the past. The image of the iPhone 5 rear cover and another image of the iPhone 4S antenna assembly follow below.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 to get LTE love

We mentioned earlier this week that the LTE update for the Motorola Xoom was hitting test groups. Samsung is also announcing LTE news of its own. Apparently, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 will also be getting an LTE version. Perhaps more interesting for those of us not in an LTE coverage area, the LTE version of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is also getting a spec bump compared to the original.

The LTE version of the tablet will reportedly have Android 3.2 and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The LTE flavor will also rock a 3MP camera, 8.9-inch 1280 x 800 resolution screen, and it will be 8.6mm thick. The tablet will reportedly weigh in at 455g. Originally, we expected the LTE version of the Galaxy Tab 8.9 to be unveiled at IFA.
However, there is a chance that the tablet might be unveiled at a NYC event on August 29 according to reports. I wonder how quickly Apple will file a patent suit covering the Galaxy Tab 8.9. there is no word on pricing or what carrier the tablet will hit when it launches.

Google TV Said to be Announced for the UK, Lands Within Six Months

It seems Google’s finally ready to get over this Google TV hump as Eric Schmidt is rumored to be announcing the service (and hopefully some hardware partners) for a UK launch within six months. Google TV’s launch here in the US hasn’t exactly been an easy one for Google.
It looked promising from the start, but a lack of support from television networks and applications (namely ones from the Android market) seemed to keep consumers at bay when considering units at retail. With Honeycomb/Ice Cream Sandwich coming, it should appeal to a lot more people one they see all the great things they’re enabled to do.
Internet TVs are great, and with the flexibility Google TV provides for OEMs, there’s a lot of excitement for it. Instead of an OEM having to deliver and maintain their own apps, Google TV provides a pool of developer-created apps and content, meaning the possibilities for OEMs’ users are almost endless. That’s an important factor when it comes down to marketing.
It seems Google’s happy with where Google TV is going and will be making a very big push, and that will especially be evident if a forthcoming announcement is indeed set to go down. Any of you UK folks jumping in once Google brings Google TV to your shores? [Daily Mail via EuroDroid]

Samsung Nexus Prime Receives WiFi Certification

The Samsung GT-I9250 which has a 99.9% chance of turning out to be the upcoming Nexus Prime has just passed its WiFi certification today. Right on schedule with that leaked Samsung roadmap, the eve of the Nexus Prime is almost upon us. In case you needed a refresher, this device will be the premier Google device running the latest version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich. The device will have a 1280×720 HD screen so bright, so vivid, it will be like looking into the face of Andy Rubin himself. Word is Google has made nice with Texas Instruments so you can expect the latest OMAP4 processor they have to offer. No word yet on a carrier but I’ve heard from some people, that know some people, that rob people — it could be Verizon.

Android Copyright Found Inside Leaked BlackBerry OS 7 – But Why?

A leaked copy of BlackBerry OS 7 (7.0.0.353 to be exact) has been making its way around the internets and someone with a very keen perception to detail, actually took the time to read through the copyrights found within. What did they find? Well, apparently RIM felt the need to give credit to the Android Open Source Project. Wait- what?

Now, let me stop you right there. Don’t confuse BlackBerry OS 7 for the QNX OS running on the BlackBerry Playbook. They are entirely different operating systems and I know this would make a lot more sense if BB OS 7 was QNX seeing how its been long announced that it will feature the ability to play Android apps via a handy app player.
So what exactly is going on here? No one knows for certain. Its obvious BlackBerry OS 7 is taking some kind of code from Android but that’s all we can be sure at this moment. I’ll turn this to our always sensible and knowledgeable readers. You guys have any idea what could be going on here? Chime in below.

Samsung Hercules (T989) and AT&T Variant (I927) Make Their Way Past The FCC

The Samsung Hercules (T989), T-Mobile’s variant of their Galaxy S II device, was discovered making it’s way through the FCC today. Not to be outdone by T-Mobile, AT&T’s own version of the Galaxy S II (I927) also made a surprise appearance (pictured above). Both devices have been rumored to launch soon on their respective carriers and unveiled in a Galaxy S II event being held on August 29th in New York. Today’s FCC filings just bring us one more step to both the device’s inevitable release and Galaxy S II world domination.
Thanks, Jamil!
