LG Thrill 4G Confirmed by AT&T for September 4th

Well folks, we still haven’t seen any sort of official announcement or press release regarding the LG Thrill 4G also known as the Optimus 3D but today AT&T has confirmed the launch date for September 4th just as previous leaks suggested. While it has been delayed more than a few times at least it will hit the market with a great price.

This 4.3″ glasses-free 3D phone with a dual-core TI OMAP 1 Ghz CPU is quite the powerful phone and just like we mentioned above, it will be on the market at an amazing price.
We have seen prices of just $99 from AT&T with a new 2-year contract rather than the usual $199 price tag. As well as $79 in Target and RadioShack ads. I don’t know about you guys but getting this phone at that price is a stellar deal, and you wont have to wait long either. With AT&T finally saying it will be here September 4th it appears they are ready for some 3D action. Are you?

HP TouchPad Ad Revenue Reaches Android Levels in 10 Days

While it appears that the HP TouchPad is now sold out completely (or so we’re lead to believe,) the cash flow has just begun – in ad form. It’s not HP who will be profiting in this little situation right here, but they can count on developers of apps making a pretty penny in the last week and a half to be reconsidering their move away from webOS in the wake of HP’s ditching of the hardware. As ad agency Jumptap, a group that works with mobile ads for both Android and webOS, amongst others, reports, in just the past 10 days the ad revenue of the TouchPad has nearly caught up with Android tablets.

Android tablets should by now be in their prime, right? Not especially. While nearly every manufacturer under the sun has indeed released an Android tablet of some sort, you’ve got to consider the fact that Honeycomb, Android’s tablet-specific OS, is less than a year old itself. Of course you don’t see the iPad’s numbers on here, but given the amount of apps currently available for the Android tablet-specific world of Honeycomb at the moment, the TouchPad had a pretty good chance of catching up pretty quick.
But this quick? Ten days and the TouchPad has a HIGHER tablet traffic share than Android did 10 days ago. Android remains on top here in this chart, but look at those gains! As our source James Kendrick of ZDNet notes, this chart shows traffic and not sales, but Jumptap assures us that the sales are certainly reflected in the end.
Now the next question is: what will happen to these numbers when the TouchPad has Android running reliably and eventually works with CyanogenMod 7?
We shall see!

All HTC Sensation Models Unlockable now at HTCDEV

The world rejoiced a few weeks ago when HTC first revealed that they’d be working closer with the 3rd party developer community, allowing the world the ability to unlock their device’s bootloaders, resulting in the ability to hack the wave fantastic. Over at the HTCDEV webpage you’re not able to see every single version of the HTC Sensation, including the Euro version, T-Mobile USA, Turkey, Arabic, and yes, even the Bouygues Telecom version. This along with the HTC EVO 3D make up the entirety of the unlockable bootloader library at HTCDEV. Will you unlock?

I think you’ll recall quite well the first time you saw the news that HTC was unlocking bootloaders, especially if you’re the sort of person who likes to gain root on their Android device, this unlocking a whole collection of abilities you’d not otherwise quite have access to. The HTC Sensation too is an ultimately awesome device on it’s own, our review of the Sensation 4G being no less than a triple thumbs up, if you know what I mean. Now what will you do with your device when you get deep inside its guts?
As you may realize already, the Sensation has had the CyanogenMod 7 team working on it for some time. Unlocking the bootloader will allow developers from the deepest pits of creation to access the innards of the device and create a wholly new device from the source should they desire. What new wonders will unfold? We’ll see – starting now!

Galaxy S II USA Release Has 4.5-inch Display According to FCC

It appears that a mister Tommy Thompson from all the way over at Google+ has done some legwork on the images of the Galaxy S II that have been released thus far. What Thompson has done is to take the dimensions as given in the FCC listing of the Epic Touch, aka the WiMAX version of the Galaxy S II being announced tomorrow, and adjusted the images of the original Galaxy S II and the new USA version accordingly. What he’s found is that, what do you know, the display on the USA release may well be the larger 4.5-inch display we’ve been hearing about in a LTE edition of the device.

Now we’re not thinking that this release will be LTE-enabled, but a 4.5-inch display certainly isn’t out of the picture. On the other hand, the icons appear to be larger on the now-larger of the two devices. Does this mean that the resolution will be the same? Does it mean that the FCC report was a farce? Does it mean that the people responsible for the graphic design in this set of devices made the display the wrong size?
So much to think about! Another thing we can hypothesize over is the processor size, the LTE version of the device having an upgraded 1.5GHz processor right out of the box. But again, this might not be that. We can hope though, that added to our long list of wants for this release on several carriers of course. We’ll be in NYC tomorrow to cover the Samsung event, letting you know ASAP everything we hear on the device or devices as they’re revealed. Be there!

HTC Sense 3.5 Video Leaks

It appears that the same folks who brought you the HTC Sense 3.5 screencaps from a few days ago have now got a video out showing off the newest version of the system in full action. This is a full five minute tour of what they’re saying is HTC Sense 3.5 UI, looking not just a whole heck of a lot different from Sense 3.0, the version seen on the newest HTC devices, specifically the HTC Sensation, a rather lovely device if I may say so myself. Transitions have been smoothed out, details have been sharpened, and the whole thing looks just a tiny bit neater – shine and gleam all around.

The largest change you’re going to find here is the complete disappearance of the long standing three-button Sense launcher bar normally sitting at the bottom of your display. Instead you’ll have a completely separate app drawer and phone keys. There’s a brand new ability to add and remove homescreens now, and Widgets have been tweaked as well. Smells nice, doesn’t it?

What we’re seeing here is an upgrade to what yours truly considers one of the better out of the box user interfaces delivered by a manufacturer since Android began. Sense 3.0 has treated this team quite well, this upgrade to 3.5 is set to be the buffed-up and much more magical version of a winner. Expect to see this user interface on the HTC Holiday (aka HTC Raider), the HTC Vigor, the HTC Bliss, and maybe even the HTC EVO Design 4G. Be there!

HTC Holiday to be called the HTC Raider

New details about the recently seen HTC Holiday smartphone are now appearing. The phone first leaked showing some impressive specs and now we are getting more news. This time around we are hearing that it will be called the HTC Raider come launch time.

We first saw the HTC Holiday when a prototype model was leaked to the interwebz and was being sold online with a cracked screen. Thankfully we could still read the screen well enough to make out the very awesome specs of the upcoming smartphone. It will have a 1.2 Ghz dual-core CPU, a large 4.5″ qHD high resolution display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread and even 4G LTE. All that is explained in the leaks above.

HTC Raider is what we are now seeing as the official name. We’ve seen the name “raider” before in this leaked HTC Trademarks document so it appears those all might actually be coming here soon. This should be one of the first 4G LTE smartphones to hit AT&T and we’ve also heard the name HTC Waikiki but most likely that is the AT&T internal codename. Hopefully we hear more details on the HTC Raider and we will be sure to bring them to you as they come in.

Samsung Galaxy S II 2000mAh Extended Battery Revealed

As you may already know, the battery on the Samsung Galaxy S II, through some excellence in the hardware in the phone, awesomeness in the way the battery is connected to the device, or magic, is a totally awesome performer. The Samsung Galaxy S II lasts two full days according to Chris Davies original review. What you’re going to get here is a 2000 mAh battery and new battery cover so that you can replace your current 1650 mAh battery and get even MORE time out of your best-selling Android device. Mister xeq544 over at XDA has the first one we’ve seen, straight outta Euro.

Of course there’s also the 1650 mAh replacement battery and case as revealed a few weeks ago. But what the heck, everyone loves a big fat battery for their thinnest smartphone in the world to make it no longer the thinnest smartphone in the world – and what’s best? It’ll only cost you 23 Euro! That translates to something like $35 USD at the moment, not sure what the price is going to be once its released here in the states.
This package coming straight from Samsung means that this battery is completely factory approved, and it’s literally a bit thicker than the original battery, so you’ll need the extended battery cover – also, again, included in the package. Since this is an official Samsung package, the battery cover has the same texture as the original as well. This reminds me of the extended battery of the HTC ThunderBolt – fatness forever!

Samsung Galaxy S II LTE and Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE Officially Announced

Well, there you have it folks. Samsung today has officially announced that they will in fact be releasing a few LTE devices coming soon. They are set to unveil these new items at this coming weeks IFA event. What we have is an official announcement of both an upgraded Galaxy S II LTE and they also confirmed the rumor that the Galaxy Tab 8.9 would also receive 4G LTE.

We recently heard Verizon will not carry the Galaxy S II so either that is because they will carry the Galaxy S II LTE instead or they just wont be carrying it at all and instead AT&T would get that LTE Love. We’ve recently seen leaks of an upgraded SGSII with 4G LTE and a brushed aluminum back called the Samsung Celox and chances are that might be what we see this week at IFA in Berlin.
The official announcement thanks to Engadget also clears up a few rumors that Samsung would be beefing up the processor speed of these new devices. According to the release they will both be operating with a 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor rather than the 1.2 Ghz in current SGSII phones.
We recently saw the Galaxy Tab 8.9 on video and you can watch that here. Now we know it will have 4G LTE and a faster dual-core processor it basically sounds amazing and the perfect all around tablet in my opinion. With speed, performance, connectivity and perfect form factor what else would you want?
Don’t forget we will be live at IFA in Berlin so check back all week for more news coming out of the event.

HP TouchPad CyanogenMod 7 Build Initiated

If there’s one name synonymous with Android hacking in this crazy, crazy mobile world of ours, it’s Cyanogen – and today the worlds most notorious fire-sale-ridden tablet, the HP TouchPad, appears to be booting the best. But wait a second, doesn’t the HP TouchPad run webOS? Why, yes it does, but as the $99 sale of said tablet made the entirety of its stock go down to zero after HP announced they were canning their webOS hardware department, Android was a certain next step – and these days, one step after Android equals Cyanogen.

A lovely RootzWiki letter has been sent out by the CyanogenMod team today announcing that they’ve been hard at work creating a build of CyanogenMod 7 for the public for about a week now. That said, the team has released a video of the popular ROM running on a TouchPad without any touch capabilities at the moment. The reason the team is releasing a video of a boot sequence here is because they need several extra actual TouchPad units and are currently unable to locate any at the store, on the black market, on the streets, etcetera.

If you happen to have a TouchPad and would like to toss it on over to the CyanogenMod team, I’m sure they’d be more than willing to work with you on a deal. The team also wants to let the public know that they’re not working on a set schedule for this project AND that they’re not working for any sort of bounty (there was a $1500 USD bounty about a week ago for anyone who could get Android running on the TouchPad, fyi). They say they’d like to do it right, not fast.
Also note: this TouchPad is running Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread at the moment. The team at CyanogenMod have also made this project a special one in which they’ll be aiming for a multi-boot function which will allow booting into CyanogenMod7, webOS, and a variety of different operating systems concurrently. Cool beans!
