Google Maps adds Toll Road Prices, Traffic Signals, iOS improvements, and more

Google Maps is rolling out a massive update that adds new features to make traveling more easier. The list of modifications includes Toll Road Prices, Traffic Signals, iOS related improvements, and more. Let's take a closer look at the update.

Google Maps

The chief among the bunch of new features is toll road prices. As you might have assumed, the user can now see the expected toll fare to reach their destination before navigating. The toll prices will be set by the local tolling authority to help people decide which road to take. In addition, the price will depend on what day and time the user is crossing.

Regardless, the user can always look out for routes that avoid tolls. As per Google, Android and iOS users can review about 2,000 toll roads in the United States, India, Japan, and Indonesia., while more countries intend to join the list soon.

The next feature is traffic signals and stop signs. This will help the user to drive on an unknown road more cautiously. Also, you can see the nearby building outlines and places of interest. Depending on the place, you can also see the shape and breadth of roads.

Heading to the iOS improvements, the user can now take directions directly from their Apple Watch. All you have to do is tap on the Google Maps shortcut. Moreover, the app is now merged into iOS, Siri, and the Shortcuts app. That means you can directly ask Siri to find directions or search in Google Maps.

Furthermore, there's a new pinned trip widget that allows the user to view their journeys pinned in the Go Tab directly from the iOS home screen. In addition, you can check your arrival time, the next departure schedule, and a route suggestion in case you’re driving.

As this is a server-side rollout, all the aforementioned features can take up to a week to hit your devices. Lastly, after updating, you may notice a shrink in the size of the Google Maps search widget.

For all the previous reported cases, OnePlus said that the damage is caused by external factors. However, this time, the unit exploded while the user was on a call. The incident was reported on March 26, 2022, by Twitter user Lakshay Verma (@lakshayvrm). The tweet said that the device was in his brother’s hand and he was on a call while the model caught blast.

As you expected, the sudden burst left several injuries to the user. It caused melted metal fragments to cling to the user’s palm and face. In another tweet (later deleted), Lakshay mentioned that he and his brother visited the OnePlus service center in CP, New Delhi to seek a solution. The partners there asked them to wait for 2-3 days. Unfortunately, the user was asked to collect the device as the service center couldn't do anything about the matter.

Taking a look at the tweet, the OnePlus Nord 2 seems to be completely vandalized and beyond repair. Just like in the previous cases, the phone first caught fire around the left edge.

The victim has filed a case against OnePlus after not getting the desired response from the company. Responding to this, OnePlus asked the user to get in touch via DMs so they could ”look into the claim.”

The update train for Samsung Galaxy S9 & Galaxy S9+ has reached its last station at March 2022 security patch. The company has quietly removed the lineup from its mobile security page, indicating the end of software update support for the two mobile phones.

As mentioned earlier, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ were unveiled in 2018 with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. As promised by Samsung, the devices received two major Android OS updates with Android 9 and Android 10 along with One UI 2.5. After these major upgrades, the company announced last year that the duo will get quarterly security updates. Maybe this was a hint by the brand to prepare for the end of updates to the Galaxy 9 series.

On the other hand, 2019 launched Galaxy S10 series and Galaxy A50 will no longer get monthly security patches. In fact, they are now shifted to get the updates quarterly. The Galaxy S10 series is currently running on the Android 12 based One UI 4.1, while the Galaxy A50 is still on Android 11 OS. Both lineups could be the next to end their update journey by the next year.

The all-new UI make-over is already having a server-side rollout for the Pixel smartphones. In addition, it is currently available only for beta testers as Google Phone v78. Therefore, not every beta user will get this revised look. If you're so lucky enough, let us know in the comment section below.

Talking about tweaks, the beta update arrives with redesigned buttons and new animations on top of last year's additions. Isn't that great? making good the better! The Google Phone app will look exactly like the Android 12's PIN lock screen or the redesigned calculator app. Just like these screens, the new buttons of the phone app will be oval-shaped with boundaries, making them stand out.

Moreover, the height of the keypad is increased. That means it is more prominent and takes more space on the screen than the older layout. Although it is not a major change, but it does make the app more in line with the overall user interface.

As mentioned, not every beta user can taste the refreshed look as of now. To take your chances, you can sign up for the beta through Google Play.
