Samsung Nexus S for AT&T Hits the FCC

Just as with the original Nexus One it looks like Google’s trying to get this thing out to more than one carrier. The Nexus S has recently passed certification at the FCC, it would appear. FCC only handles devices intended to be sold in the United States, but Canadians – who operate on the same wavelength as AT&T – can import anyway. Let’s hope Google can actually get the device on all four major carriers this time as they were unable to do with the original.

Even More HTC Thunderbolt Cases Begin Arriving at Verizon Stores

We’ve seen plenty of HTC Thunderbolt cases showing up over the past week, despite the fact that a rumored February 14th release date seems to be giving way to an a second rumored February 24th release date. While the first group of cases we saw landed at Best Buy, if I’m not mistaken this is the first group to be found at a Verizon retail store.
The bunch features three different cases: a “high gloss” silicone cover, a snap-on hard cover, and a combo hard case with gel cover all with kickstand cutouts. Interestingly, the hard cover alone and the hard cover/gel combo both cost $24.99, while the gel cover by itself goes for $19.99. We would love to sprinkle in some “well the cases are at Verizon, maybe it will show up sooner than the 24th” speculation, but with the way this release date keeps fluctuating we don’t want to add to the fire. At least we know that when it does show up casing options will be ample.

LG Beats Samsung & Sony To The Punch On Super Sunday

Forget what you know about last week being Super Bowl Sunday today is Super Sunday. Usually the day before MWC, or any tradeshow for that matter, opens the big announcements come out. We know that Samsung is announcing it’s whole line up shortly and Sony is also announcing the Sony Xperia Play later today.  But LG, comes barreling out of the gate as their “booth women” (commonly referred to as booth babes) are on site before the show with the goods.
Most everything they have has been announced including the upcoming 4G LG Revolution that we saw at CES. The LG Optimus 2x (which is already shipping to reviewers), the LG Optimus Black, the G-Slate (LG Optimus Pad) and the LG Optimus 3D phone which got a promo video commercial at the tail end of last week.
You may remember last year LG said they were doing big things with Android and this year they are.  We are anxiously awaiting to unpack everything with LG’s Korean rival Samsung Mobile

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1″ and Galaxy S II official photos leak

The Samsung MWC 2011 leaks just keep coming, and after yesterday’s spec-spill of the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Tab 10.1″, now we have some official imagery too. Samsung Hub and MovePlayer have dug up various renders and live shots of the smartphone and tablet.

As we learned yesterday, the Galaxy S II has a 4.3-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display, dual-core 1GHz processor and 8-megapixel camera. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab 10.1″ has a 1280 x 768 display, 1GHz dual-core CPU and the same 8-megapixel camera. Both can apparently shoot Full HD video. We’ll know more – and have hands-on – after Samsung’s MWC 2011 event later today.

Rightware Steroscopic 3D Interface Demo [Image and Video]

It appears that our good pals on CrunchGear have got their hands on an early set of images and video of Rightware’s brand spanking new Stereoscopic 3D interface that’ll be working hard at impressing everyone in the world via Barcelona over the next few days. This 3D interface will be working with Android, obviously, and is based on the Rightware Kanzi UI, which if you’re unaware is a platform for displaying 3D user interfaces on mobile devices, specializing in the especially complex.

CEO of Rightware Tero Sarkkinem had the following to say about this super amazing setup: “[here we have] the world’s first fully functioning stereoscopic 3D home screen for Android…it’s now up and running, and will be showcased by Rightware at Mobile World Congress.” Sounds good to us. Can’t wait to get our fingers poking around in there to see how well it flies around and of course, if it’s really all it looks to be.

HTC Thunderbolt has been ROOTED!

Even before Verizon had a chance to release the HTC Thunderbolt, it seems one has already been rooted over at XDA Developers. Titled “In the Name of Root” by XDA member jcase, there are pictures clearly showing Clockwork Mod Recovery at boot. AndIRC is the team responsible for this feat, and I’m sure this will convince even a few more to jump on the bandwagon towards owning a Thunderbolt.

Knowing root is already feasible, what’s next? Will CyanogenMod 7 be ported soon as well? With the actual release of the Thunderbolt more than 12 days away, it’s still hard to believe the device has been rooted. By the time it hits the market I’m sure some more crafty developers will have cooked up a custom ROM and thus starting the general public out with root from day one.

LG announces the Optimus 3D with dual-core 1GHz processor and great video format support

Mobile devices with glasses-free 3D displays are all the rage now. I personally haven’t decided whether I think they’re an impractical gimmick or the greatest thing ever, but I’ve heard that hardened video game reporters have felt like kids holding their first Game Boy when using the autostereoscopic Nintendo 3DS. I guess there’s no way of knowing for sure until you’ve used a portable device with a 3D display yourself for a couple of hours.
However, LG is one company that believes in 3D, and it has announced its upcoming Android powerhouse LG Optimus 3D. Just like the Optimus 2X, the Optimus 3D features a dual-core 1GHz processor, but it’s a TI OMAP 4 chip by Texas Instruments instead of a Tegra 2. The screen of the Optimus 3D is big, 4.3-inches, and it naturally has 3D technology.
A feature of this device that I wish more Androids had is great support for video decoders. According to LG, the Optimus 3D will bring four times more video decoders than competing designs.” Hence, owners of the device should not have to resort to third-party video players such as RockPlayer and VPlayer in order to play popular video formats such as DivX. You can read the full press-release below – the LG Optimus 2X, Optimus Black and Optimus Pad are discussed as well.
