ASUS Transformer Prime Pre-Orders Start at Amazon

Perhaps a bit confusing since the product name only mentions “ASUS Transformer” and I’m logged in with my Amazon Prime-enabled account. But don’t be fooled, as clearly indicated in the specs this is indeed the ASUS Transformer Prime, the first Android Tablet with a quad-core processor, courtesy of the NVIDIA Tegra 3 beast powering this bad boy. As you can see there are 32GB and 64GB options that come in Gray and Champagne. It appears the front bevel is black either way- this color option only applies to the back.
So go ahead… make sure Santa and his elves have plenty of time to piece together the prime in time to slide it down your chimney by pre-ordering now.

Amazon Lists “Samsung Galaxy S II Nexus Prime 4G Android Phone” for Verizon Wireless

Upon ordering an HTC Rezound, one of our readers stumbled across something very interesting – a listing for one “Samsung Galaxy S II Nexus Prime 4G Android Phone” headed for Verizon Wireless. The “Nexus Prime” or “Galaxy Nexus” for short.
Amazon says it usually ships within 1-2 weeks, but that doesn’t mean much without an actual date. They’re only listing it as backordered, understandable considering Verizon has yet to announce an official release date.
Still, it’s good to see Amazon providing a listing period. It tells us Verizon may be finally readying their plans to advertise and launch the device, good news for anyone hoping it launches before a few weeks’ time.
Their naming for the device also mirrors Best Buy’s “Nexus Prime” name in upcoming ads, further evidence that Verizon may be going with the name the international device was rumored to have.

Samsung Still Bringing Next Generation Google TV Devices in 2012

While some manufacturers, like Logitech, may not be as willing to jump back into the Google TV market before it proves itself to be fruitful, Samsung’s still going steadfast into the future with plans to offer next generation devices.
Reuters is hearing that while we won’t see their newer devices by CES, we definitely will be seeing them at a later date. It’s comforting to hear that Google still has a major hardware partner and potentially a couple more behind Google TV, giving them incentive to keep the project alive.
After Logitech credited the Revue with causing them to lose some of $100 million all seemed a bit worrying, but things often are with new products and untested markets. We’re sure HTC lost money on Android when they were the only ones launching phones in the slow market but look where everyone is at now.
The only difference between this and that is that the smartphone market was starting to boom and Android was in a great position to take advantage of that. The smart TV market is still maturing and still looking to capture the interests of many consumers. It’s not just Google TV that hasn’t really taken off and we’re sure if the market is there, Google TV will be. [Reuters]

Android gets AirPlay-like streaming via xBounds

One of the things that make it easy for iOS users to shoot music and other content around the home or office with no wires is AirPlay. I would imagine that many Android fans have thought something similar to that would be nice. A new device called xBounds has landed that will let you shoot video from an Android device out to a larger screen. The device even supports multiple player gaming.

The xBounds device is a little HDMI dongle that hooks to the TV and has WiFi tech inside. The Android device connects to it using software and a WiFi network, that WiFi network can be encrypted. Once the Android tablet or smartphone is connected to that xBounds HDMI dongle you can stream any video content you want over to the TV or display. The cool part is that you can stream both video games and streaming video content like Netflix or purchased movies.

The content on the external display reacts in real time along with the actions on screen. You can see in the demo video below the developer of the device playing Angry Birds with no lag between the smartphone screen action and the big screen. This would certainly make for an easier way to stream you movies to the TV than having to use HDMI output. The developer kit for xBounds sells for 998 euro and the consumer kit sells for 99 euro. The price is certainly the biggest downside to the xBounds system.

Ice Cream Sandwich gets dedicated search button mod

Google may be a search company first and foremost, but Ice Cream Sandwich shifts Android away from a dedicated search button and replaces it with the app switcher. Using virtual buttons has benefits for modders, however, and MoDaCo’s Paul O’Brien has wasted no time in adding a dedicated search option in the ICS button bar.

As you’d expect, tapping it brings up the search dialog, just as the dedicated search buttons on previous Android phones would do. Google hasn’t exactly excised search from Android 4.0 altogether – in fact the homescreen now has a persistent search box across the top, that’s carried over all five panes – but this dedicated key makes it a little easier.
Sometimes it’s the little tweaks that can make the most difference to daily use, and this could well be one of them. No word on when exactly Paul might release the mod at this stage, but he tells us it will be “very shortly.”

AT&T Foils Potential Security Breach

AT&T has released a formal statement to let their consumers know that they have experienced a potential security breach that would allow the successful attacker to compromise user accounts that hold some sensitive data.
Fortunately, AT&T says they caught the act in progress and shut it down immediately. They claim that no information appears to have been obtained from the attack, though they will be conducting an official investigation to figure out whodunnit and why.
We recently detected what could have been an organized attempt to obtain information on a number of customer accounts. The people in question appear to have used “auto script” technology to determine whether AT&T telephone numbers were linked to online AT&T accounts. No accounts were breached and our investigation is ongoing to determine the source or intent of the attempt to gather this information. In the meantime, out of an abundance of caution, we are advising the account holders involved.
You likely have very little to worry about but keep an eye out on for your mail or online statements in case AT&T issues another statement based on further developments. [via Engadget]

ASUS Transformer Prime Overview Page Now Live – Provides In Depth Info and Downloadable Manual

The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime is sure to be a hot item this holiday season and we happened upon the official overview page, now live, on ASUS.com. While, this isn’t exactly news, I did feel it would be a great place to direct friends and family, possibly on the fence about which tablet to purchase for the holidays. Just like Google’s Galaxy Nexus page, the Transformer Prime page goes a little more in depth on all the individual features of the disturbingly thin tablet, showing off its hardware and new software.
If you would live to check it out the overview for yourself or bookmark so you can share with others, hit up that source link where you can also find the user manual available for download. Inside the manual? Well, just your typical level 5 tech support tips like, “if your device doesn’t recognize your SD card, remove it and place it back in.” Derp.
Thanks, Sean!

Google Updates Galaxy Nexus Page AGAIN – This Time Relisted At 32GB Storage

Alright, this is beginning to make me dizzy. On Friday, we told you guys how Google updated their Galaxy Nexus page to show the Verizon version of the device only packing 16GB vs. the “16/32GB” they had listed initially. Well, many of readers voiced their opinions and needless to say, most weren’t too happy with the changes. Now, here we are today where we get a Phantip from a reader letting us know the internal storage has been updated once again, this time showing only the 32GB option.
I don’t know exactly what’s going on at either Samsung, Verizon or Google but this is becoming maddening. Now, more than every, you can expect the pricing of the phone will reflect that higher internal storage. You guys happy its set back to 32GB?
Thanks, Michael!
