[Weekend Poll] Thinness Vs. Battery Life: FIGHT!

In keeping with the more technical nature of the last Weekend Poll: what’s more important to you – battery life or thinness? Obviously there is something of a balance there, but not all phones strike it well. So which is more important to you? Would you rather have a sleek, thin device with middling battery life? Or something of a porker that allows you to power-use all day without worrying about your phone running dry?
Sound off in the poll, and let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Which is more important to you - thinness or battery life?

T-Mobile G2x: Gingerbread Coming Soon, Stock Screenshot Capabilities, Early Cyanogen Mod 7 Port Surfaces

What a nice round of news regarding the T-Mobile G2X this weekend. There’s a lot here so grab some popcorn and stick with me. Firstly, T-Mobile has confirmed that the device will certainly be getting Android 2.3 – we expected as much. And they say we won’t have to wait very long for it either – we expected that, too, considering it’s a stock Android device.
Secondly, if you didn’t know, this thing can take screenshots out of the box. No need to root it and install ShootMe. (Though we’d still recommend going that route as ShootMe is a very sweet app.) Not sure how many of you will find value in this, but it’s always nice to know that it’s there. Simply hold down the power and home buttons simultaneously.
Finally, if you’d rather inject your brand new dual-core smartphone with some CyanogenMod 7, you most likely won’t have to wait long – folks are already working on adapting the ROM to the T-Mobile G2x. Cyanogen hasn’t announced official support just yet, but if the developers responsible for the port can get it stable enough then I’m sure it won’t take long before it sits on Cyan’s official device list.

HTC Flyer India launch possible in May-end for INR 35K

HTC India has been on a launch spree in the recent times. First Incredible S, then Desire S, both these were released in India soon after their international launch. Same is the case with upcoming HTC Flyer. The word on the street is that HTC will be releasing its first Android tablet Flyer in India by the end of next month.

HTC Flyer, which was first announced at Mobile World Congress, is soon going to make its debut in UK and US. It features a 7 inch display and it powered by Qualcomm 1.5 GHz processor.  Although on the downside it runs on Gingerbread with a heavily customized HTC Sense interface, but company is expected to release Honeycomb update for the tablet. As the Sprint version of the tablet Evo View is being launch with Honeycomb pre-installed.
Coming to the pricing, company is expected to launch the 32 GB/3G version in India for INR 35,000, which seems normal considering Samsung Galaxy Tab’s launch price was INR 38,000. But, we would expect the price to go down similar to Galaxy Tab.

DROID Incredible 2, Inductive Charging Mat, and DROID Charge Accessories Arriving in Verizon Stores

Everything’s all set for an April 28th launch for a few Verizon-branded devices, folks, as they’re now headed to stores. We already knew of the arrival of some dummy units for the Casio Commando and the DROID Incredible 2, but this weekend’s leak seems to suggest that actual device units are already in stock.
Along with the DROID Incredible 2, Verizon’s set to introduce an induction charging mat for the special wireless charging battery doors they’ll be making available for their newest DROID devices. (These include the HTC Thunderbolt and the HTC Incredible 2 as well as the LG Revolution )

Pricing? Sure – $70. Don’t panic, these prices are inline with similar products such as those from Powermat’s line. In that same leak we’ve caught wind of some DROID Charge accessories. No surprise here, but you can expect a vehicle dock, a multimedia dock, and a case with a convenient kickstand. Those can be had for $40, $50 and $30, respectively.

HTC Flyer preorders start Monday at Best Buy

HTC Flyer fans, you’re wait is nearly over.  Best Buy is now making it official with preorder details and pricing. Beginning on Monday, April 25, 2011, you will be able to pre-order the WiFi version of the Android Tablet for $499 through the Best Buy website. One thing though, the Flyer will not come with Android 3.0 (Honeycomb), but has Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) preloaded instead, with HTC Sense. Google hasn’t made Honeycomb available just yet to HTC. And it may not, since we reported last month that Google is requiring separate license for the Honeycomb OS and is blocking updates from all Android 2.x tablets.

It’s unclear if Google just isn’t ready to release the OS to HTC or if licensing issues will prevent it. But that would be a blow to what has been a very hyped up tablet which users are waiting to get their hands on. In the same article mentioned above, however, it says that only certain models of the HTC Flyer will be prevented from getting a Honeycomb update. So it may prove wise to wait on ordering until the situation clears itself up.
The HTC Flyer is a unique design which goes back to using a Stylus thanks to it’s Scribe technology. It’s power by a single core 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, and a 7-inch screen with 1024 x 600 resolution. It can store plenty of data on it’s 16GB of internal storage, which can be boosted thanks to it’s microSD card slot. The Flyer will be in stores by May 9th.

Samsung Galaxy S II coming soon, 3 commercials released

The Samsung Galaxy S series has gained a very high level of popularity in the U.S., one of the main reasons being that there is a Galaxy S device available in every major carrier (as well as some smaller carriers). Since Mobile World Congress, Samsung fans are surely excited for the release of the nifty Samsung Galaxy S II, sporting specs that are expected to blow everyone’s mind. Clarifying the rumored delay, Samsung stated that the device would be released within April, but the actual launch is different in every country. Nevertheless, the Galaxy S II should be getting here soon, and Samsung is teasing us with a series of commercials this week.
Samsung is not efficiently demonstrating what the device can actually do, which seems to be becoming a trend lately, but the advertising focuses more on the high quality display (1st commercial) and the voice command advantages (2nd and 3rd commercials). Frankly, although voice commands and Super AMOLED plus displays can be exciting, it would be more interesting to see the device’s full potential in other aspects as well. Regardless, it is exciting to get a peek of this device from an official source, because it means that the bad boy is just around the corner. If you have been waiting for the Galaxy S II, check out the videos after the break, and let us know what you think of them. Will you be getting your hands on the Galaxy S II once it is available?

Dell's 10-inch Android and Windows tablets get names, specs, release dates

Well, well, what have we here? A pair of 10-inch Dell tablets, one running Windows 7 on those fancy new Oak Trail chips from Intel and the other pushing Android 3.0 with a Tegra T25. We already saw these devices leaked in February, but now we have some specs and release dates. The Wintel powered Latitude ST boasts a resolution of 1366 x 768, 2GB of RAM, up to a 128GB SSD, GPS, an accelerometer, both front- and rear-facing cameras, an 8-hour removable battery, and "1080p video output," which we assume means HDMI-out. The Android-flavored Streak Pro opts for a 1200 x 800 panel, but keeps the pair of cameras (and two mics) for video chats, while adding an unspecified mobile broadband radio and slathering Dell's Stage UI on top of Honeycomb (whether or not that's a good thing is purely a matter of taste). Pricing is still up in the air, but the leaked roadmap indicates the Streak Pro will land in June, followed by the Latitude XT3 convertible tablet in July, and the Latitude ST in October.
