Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1v Coming to Portugal with €590 Pricetag

A while back, Samsung had announced two pretty impressive tablets, coming in 8.9 and 10.1 inch flavors. Afterwards, the iPad 2 came out with an extremely impressive 0.34 inch slimness, causing Sammy to take their tablets back to the drawing board to knock them both down to 0.33 inches thick, the thinnest tablets currently announced. Well, back then, Samsung had stated that the original tablets weren’t going to be completely scrapped, but instead made available for overseas Vodafone customers. This promise has come to fruition, as tomorrow Vodafone Portugal will be getting their realease of Sammy’s Honeycomb-flavored 10.1v tablet love. The Galaxy Tab-branded tablet will also be sporting elements of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface to complement Honeycomb’s tablet optimizations. Don’t be concerned about it being an older version either, as the dual-core 1 GHz processor and 16 gigs of on-board memory match what’s on its slimmer brother. Any of our Portuguese readers out there planning on picking this up? Let us know in the comments!

SugarSync for Android automatically backs up images

There’s a new app which will automatically back up images wirelessly when users get near their computer. The app, dubbed SugarSync, automatically backs up any images, documents, and folders to all your computers. In addition, SugarSync backs up to the cloud as well. There’s no connecting, no selecting, and Sugar Sync doesn’t even have to be running resident for it to happen.

The process is called “autosync” and it also works with folders as well. So users can sync documents to and from their PC to the Android. Any work done to documents is then backed up back to the cloud and your PCs. It’s an ideal solution for business travelers looking for a simple sync solution.

Users just set up autosync in the app by pressing the menu button, choosing settings and enabling the autosync options. Users can also customize when and how the autosync happens. So, for instance, a WiFi only option can be made in order to save on data caps and battery life. Or, a time interval can be set to that autosync backs up when you want.

Some Verizon Android Phones Cheaper Than Free From Amazon

In a move that starts to show the unique ways Amazon has to promote its Appstore, the online retailer will begin giving $25 in Appstore credit free to those who buy a Verizon Android device via Amazon Wireless.
With last year's models like the Droid X and Droid Incredible priced at one cent (with contract), this sets up buyers to get a new handset for less than free. And it gives users who might not otherwise do so a good reason to give the Appstore a try.
No word yet whether Amazon will run similar promotions for other carriers' devices.
Whether or not Amazon ultimately releases an Android-powered tablet, the fact that it is now in the game of selling both Android hardware and software means that it's uniquely able to offer promotions like this. Would $25 to spend in the Appstore encourage you to buy your next device from Amazon, or to try out their Appstore if you haven't yet? Let us know in the comments.

Xperia Mini Pro II Shown Side-By-Side With Original

It’s not like Sony Ericsson to allow leaks to go on for so long without as much as a quick mention of a device’s existence (with the Xperia Play being an obvious exception), but we still haven’t learned about what looks to be the successor to the Xperia Mini Pro.
This time, it’s shown up in a slew of new images alongside the very device it’s replacing. The differences in hardware are clear, but it still won’t stray too far from Sony Ericsson’s original model both in hardware and software. Check out a few more shots at the source link.

Galaxy S II hits Korea with NFC payment system ready to go

In Korea, KT is rolling out a new NFC payment system that will also users of compatible mobile phones to pay for purchases using their smartphones. NFC payments for smart devices are becoming a big deal all around the world and some of the biggest firms in the tech realm are backing NFC payments systems in the US and abroad. In the US Google is pushing hard for NFC and several major credit card companies are also backing NFC plans.

In Korea KT has announced the first NFC payment system that will be available for users. The NFC system will require and app to operate and the app is installed from the factory on Galaxy S II smartphones from Samsung. Not all markets will get the NFC app pre-installed though. I will be the first to admit that the translation form Korean to English is not the best, but it appears that the NFC payment system will support Korean grocery store Lotte Mart and the credit card system the store uses.
The payment system launched by KT is called olleh touch and the app stores the credit card details and the membership card. Apparently, the app will not be offered for download onto other smartphones right away. The users of the NFC system will also get discounts and promotions worth up to 19,000 won over the year. The NFC system in place uses 13.56MHz frequency and will transmit data from about 10cm between the smartphone and the NFC reader.

Updated: [Download] CyanogenMod 7 For The HTC Thunderbolt (Pre-Alpha) Now With Fast Mirror!

Yes, you read right – CyanogenMod 7 for the Thunderbolt. We’re super excited, too, because we can finally get our Thunderbolt Gingerbread on! But, please be careful, this is a pre-Alpha release (that means the release before the release before the beta), so be careful. Here’s what does not work:
-USB Tethering does not work.
-Phone Testing menu does not display correct radio options. If you play with it, you will have to relfash a Stock based rom to 4G back.
-Possible Data/Voice bugs and issues.
-Possible Mic issues on phone calls (try a reboot)
This is basically saying your Thunderbolt might not work very well as a phone. So please, download at your own risk!

Acer Iconia Tab A500 now on sale, $450 for aluminum-clad WiFi-only model

Yearning for some diversity in your hunt for a Honeycomb tablet? Acer's new Iconia Tab A500 doesn't really stray from the Tegra 2 norm when it comes to internal specs, but it does have that brushed aluminum back, a full-sized USB 2.0 port, and a sane $450 price point going for it. You'll get 16GB of storage and 802.11b/g/n WiFi connectivity for your money, though ASUS' similarly outfitted Eee Pad Transformer should also be prominent on your radar as it'll ask for an even humbler $399 when it makes its slightly delayed US launch tomorrow. Let's hope the arrival of these Taiwanese cousins nudges other Android tablets makers into engaging in a bit of price competition, eh?
