iPhone 4 vs. Samsung Galaxy S II Pre-Order: Apple Loses

It would appear that Apple’s iPhone 4 has a battle on its hands in Korea, this is according to the pre-order sales figures for the Samsung Galaxy S II.
It is claimed that the Samsung Galaxy S II had nearly 200,000 pre-orders across all 3 of Korea’s major carriers between Monday, April 25th and the handset’s launch in its homeland on Friday, April 29th. The majority of the pre-orders (160,000) were with the country’s largest carrier SK Telecom.
Now compared with 110,000 pre-orders of the Apple iPhone 4 in the month of August just before its release, this could be considered as a win for Samsung. However, as with the USA the iPhone was confined to only one carrier at that time, which no doubt had an effect on the overall sales figures for the device.
The plan by Samsung, as indicated by Electronista coming to us via Phandroid, is to get 10 million Galaxy S II’s in customers’ pockets by the end of this year, this is the same figure that they received for the original Galaxy S smartphone. Whilst, this number sounds huge, it is quite modest when compared to the 18.65 million iPhones that Apple shipped last winter.
The Samsung Galaxy S II could be a major contender to its rivals this Summer. Which device do you prefer the Apple iPhone 4 or the Samsung Galaxy S II?

Mossberg Said iPad 2 is better than LG G-Slate.

The gadget godfather over at the Wall Street Journal is Walter Mossberg. This is a geek of a different color than us normal folks and one review good or bad from Mossberg can make or break a new product on the market. More than one bad review from Mossberg has heralded the demise of the dreams of sales glory for a manufacturer.

Mossberg has laid his hands on the LG G-Slate tablet that we have talked about before. The G-Slate sells for about $750 with no data contract. He noted in the review that the tablet performs pretty well overall. However, the real killer comment for LG was this one, “The G-Slate isn’t as good a tablet as the iPad 2. I’d only recommend it for people who want the higher cellular speeds, or who prefer Android.”
If you don’t care what Mossberg thinks you can get the tablet right now. It’s got nice hardware with a dual-core Tegra processor and Android 3.0 as the OS. The screen is an 8.9-inch unit that is multi-touch compatible and it will show 3D content if you wear glasses. The tablet is Google certified as well and has a 2MP front camera and a 5MP rear camera.

Android Beats Out iOS for Customer Preference for the First Time.

According to a new report put out by Nielsen, Android has overtaken iOS as the platform of choice for users planning to either get a smartphone for the first time, or get a new smartphone, in the next year.
In the July-Sept 2010 report, iOS was reported as the system of choice for 33% of users, while Android was the OS 26% were planning to purchase. However, in the surveys taken from January to March 2011, the tables have turned. Android has risen to 31%, while iOS has dropped to 30%. This is a big deal because it shows that Android is beginning to gain traction by not just luring customers from platforms like Blackberry and Windows, but it has started to solidly chip away at Apple’s customer base.
In terms of actual acquisitions, Android captured 50% of the market share, versus Apple’s 25%, showing Android still has a great deal of momentum with consumers that is only continuing to gain steam.
