Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket: white version of the popular smartphone coming?

Rumors have begun to develop recently that AT&T will release a white version of their black Samsung Galaxy S II skyrocket for their 4G LTE wireless broadband network. Currently the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket black Android smartphone sporting Gingerbread’s 2.3.5 operating system is the only handset on their new 4G LTE platform. Neither Samsung nor AT&T would confirm or deny the rumors, but screen shots have appeared all over the web in the last couple of days displaying what looks to be a white Samsung Galaxy S II skyrocket.
While that rumor cannot be confirmed, the black version of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket is offered on AT&T’s 4G LTE network on Amazon at a retail price of one penny as long as the purchase is made before November 28. That offer is exclusive to Amazon as the largest online retailer in the world pushes to draw market share away from its competition. Amazon has also added free two-day shipping, and that one penny retail price does require the standard two-year activation.
Buy the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket for as little as $.01 this Black Friday weekend for new customers and at a discount for existing upgrades as well.
The handset arrives at AT&T with a 4.50 inch capacitive touchscreen and 480 x 800 pixel resolution. That display is Samsung’s own creation, and uses their Super AMOLED Plus display technology which supports 16 million color delivery. Light and proximity sensors are built in to the handset, and that screen is protected by a layer of scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass.
The handset measures 5.11 x 2.71 x 0.37 inches (129.8 x 68.8 x 9.49 mm) and weighs 4.60 ounces (130 g). The battery on board is 1850 mAh, and delivers 7.0 hours of continuous talk time and 11 days standby on a single charge. The Galaxy S II skyrocket is home to a dual core 1.5 GHz processor and 1.0 GB of RAM memory, as well as 16 GB of built-in storage. That storage can be upgraded to a full 32 GB utilizing the built-in microSD slot. The Skyrocket contains both front facing and rear facing cameras, an 8.0 megapixel rear model and front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam. The rear facing device can record at 1080P HD and 30 frames per second, while the front facing chat cam also provides video calls and records in 720P HD quality.

Motorola DROID 4 may release December 8th

Are you QWERTY lovers feeling left out of the superphone game as of late? Well if you’re on Verizon or intend to go there soon, you may have reason to to celebrate in a couple of weeks. According to yet another internal Verizon leak, the fourth generation of the original Motorola Droid is due Thursday, December 8th online and in retail stores. The device keeps the slider functionality of the primary DROID line, but throws in some more recent Motorola styling and Verizon LTE.

So far, the rumored and absolutely unconfirmed DROID 4 specs include a 4-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display that’s essentially a slightly smaller version of the one found on the DROID RAZR. The phone clearly shares the tapered lines found on its skinny sibling, as well as the ones spotted on the XOOM 2/XYBOARD. The keyboard remains at five rows with backlighting. ICS will have to wait, as the DROID 4 will release with Gingerbread. Processor, RAM and on-board storage are question marks at this point.
Those waiting for that other Verizon phone will no doubt note that December 8th is the latest in a long line of rumored release dates for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus’ Verizon LTE version. There’s still no official word on either phone, so we’ll simply have to wait to see if these rumors pan out. The track record so far has not been promising.

Google offering Android Market movie rentals for 99 cents during the holidays

If you are enjoying the holidays with family or traveling and would like to watch a new movie then Google has you covered for the holiday season. Starting today Google will be offering the top 12 movies from the Android Market for just $0.99 cents — It’s the $0.99 cents holiday movies deal.

Now I know the first thing that might come to a few readers mind is Redbox — but those aren’t on your Android phone or tablet now are they? Most movies are $2.99 or $3.99 from the Android Market, especially new releases like what they are offering in this deal. Making this a good time to try out and rent a few movies on your favorite Android device(s). I’d like to recommend the Change-Up as it was hilarious and Olivia Wilde is gorgeous!
I’ll be traveling for Thanksgiving and plan to watch a movie or two on my Galaxy Tab 8.9 while enjoying the drive and this will definitely come in handy. It appears to only be for the US and hopefully they’ll change or add a few more after the first week but no details other than what was stated above were given. Now if you are rooted you wont be able to stream movies normally. So we’ll remind you of the streaming movies on rooted devices fix in case anyone is interested. Head down to the market and check out all the holiday special movies for just $0.99 cents.

Motorola DROID RAZR source code released

Android hackers and RAZR fans alike can rejoice today as Motorola has just released the source code for their new and popular DROID RAZR. It was announced back in October and became available earlier this month and now all the developers have full access to the code if needed.

As you can see in our image above the phone is still a little locked down, as usual with Motorola the bootloader is locked down quite tight. Some modders might be worried with a non-removable battery but we found out it actually does come out — it just takes some effort.
The source code will allow the full development and modding to really begin, for those that aren’t familiar and hopefully we’ll be seeing some progress for this amazingly thin and sleek phone soon. Covered in Kevlar now we just need some Ice Cream Sandwich and it’d be perfect. The DROID Bionic has some CM7 ports under way but I have a feeling most of the development community will be aiming for Android 4.0 ICS for the RAZR. We’ll be sure to update once some ROM’s start becoming available.

HTC Flyer sees massive price cut in India, down to INR 24K

HTC has given a big price reduction to its only tablet in the Indian market ‘Flyer’. It has been retailing for around INR 36,000 since the day it was launched in the country, but the current price cut takes it down to INR 23,990. It is one massive price downfall of 12K.

We can only guess the reasons for taking this step by HTC India, but it is likely that due to the high price of INR 36K, there weren’t many sales. Flyer was also marred because of the presence of Gingerbread, when other tablets were being released with Honeycomb on-board.

We are most likely to see ICS ROMs popping up for Flyer pretty soon. HTC was also said to be working on the official Honeycomb update for the tablet. It is certainly not a bad deal at this price and you will get a 1.5GHz single core processor, 32GB internal memory with microSD cardslot, Android 2.3 with HTC Sense for tablets, HTC Scribe pen input technology, 5MP rear camera, front camera, and 7 inch display.

It also comes with 3G support, 1GB RAM, 4000 mAh battery and the usual Bluetooth, GPS, and 3.5 mm jack.

Google confirms Galaxy Nexus volume bugfix incoming

Google has acknowledged the volume bug affecting the Galaxy Nexus, insisting that it is a software rather than a hardware problem and promising that a fix is fast incoming. Although Google did not confirm the technical reason to the issue, believed to be a problem on the 2G 900MHz band, it did tell AndroidPolice that Galaxy Nexus owners should expect an update asap.

“We are aware of the volume issue and have developed a fix. We will update devices as soon as possible.” Google
The volume problem was identified shortly after the Galaxy Nexus’ UK launch, predominantly affecting voice calls. Audio would mute or fluctuate outside of the user’s control, though it was only observed happening when the phone was using a 2G connection on a specific carrier band.
Fears had arisen that the problem could be a hardware one, forcing Google to recall the handset, and indeed at least one retailer froze sales of the smartphone pre-emptively. Google hasn’t said exactly when to expect the new firmware, though we’re hearing independently that a new build was already in the pipeline.

Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet with 3G compatibility reaches FCC

Lenovo’s ThinkPad has been out for a good while, but as a WiFi only device. Adding 3G compatibility to practically all US carriers will help it reach a wider audience of consumers. Expect no changes in hardware or software for the new version, as it will be essentially identical; you’ll see the same NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and 1GB of RAM.

The ThinkPad will support GSM 850/1900, CDMA 850/1900, and WCDMA II, IV, V bands. This will cover AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and many smaller networks. Unfortunately, it will not support any form of 4G technology according to the FCC. Considering the amount of competition in the current tablet market, 4G is a major player.

Samsung shows off how great their Galaxy S II line really is

Right before our near future of shopping madness, you can bet we’ll be seeing some great new commercials. Samsung just dropped one showing off how waiting for the “right” phone to get here just doesn’t make sense when the Galaxy S II is already here. It’s quite comical, but even more amusing is the fact that this could very well happen.

This clip shows some Apple fans waiting in line to purchase what seems to be the iPhone 4S. But as they wait, they notice something. One guy in line says, “Whoa, whats she got there”, of course referring to the Samsung Galaxy S II. Galaxy S II owners then show off the device’s bigger more vibrant screen, 4G capabilities, and simply its overall amazingness. Yeah, this is certainly a bias commercial, but then again all commercials are.

It makes me wonder if we could compare this to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. We are all waiting for this amazing device to finally become available, but are we really just waiting on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)? Once the current Galaxy S II smartphones are finally updated to ICS, could they still triumph over the Galaxy Nexus? Benchmarks of the Galaxy Nexus show that it just barely beats the GSII; only when they both sport ICS will we finally realize the next big thing was just Android 4.0.
There will surely be more commercials like this as we near the Christmas holiday shopping season. Hopefully they are all this clever.

Galaxy Nexus confirmed to launch this December

Last night we had a glimpse at a Best Buy flyer that may have been quite outdated. It seems Samsung has now confirmed the U.S. launch of device will certainly be in December. I’m sorry folks, but there is still no word on the actual day or price. The DROID RAZR debuted on Verizon for $299.99, so my guess is it will be fairly similar.

With the Europe already having access to GSM models of the Galaxy Nexus, we know it’s coming! There are only a couple reasons I assume they are putting us through this prolonged wait. One, there being a few issues with the hardware/software they are trying to work out. Two, like HiHoAg said in our forums, they may be lobbying to throw in some good ol’ Verizon bloatware.
No one wants to receive their precious Galaxy Nexus with any problems at all, so lets just stick it out and be glad when it gets here. Hopefully with no bloatware.
