Android 14 will allow predictive back gesture to work inside apps

It's been a few months since the release of Android 13. The operating system might not be a major overhaul like Android 12, but it still packs a plethora of amazing features. One such trait is the predictive back that provides visual feedback to the users to remind them that they are exiting the app. Apparently, Google is planning to expand the feature further with Android 14. The predictive back can work within applications and display the previous screen with the upcoming OS.

The feature was unveiled while “Designing a High-Quality App with the Latest Android Features” during the Android Developer Summit’s Platform Track. At the event, the tech giant came up with a term called "falling". It is simply how sometimes the user exits the app by mistake via the back gestures. To a layman, it may seem normal or useless. However, it does affect the app usage metrics or the revenue earned by the apps based on the time user spends.

Google is confident that gesture navigation is a “fast, natural, and ergonomic interaction model.” Although some users have complained that they can't see the last screen prior to the home screen.

For the record, the predictive back gesture already supports a couple of apps, including Google Phone and Google TV. However, you have to enable it from the Developer options. Fundamentally, the feature is Google’s key to giving a preview of the home screen as the user swipes and the app window starts shrinking.

With Android 14, the feature will enable by default so the user can avoid exiting the app by mistake. For instance, Google showed how the calendar opens up to show the events. Afterward, as the slow swipe back occurs, the fullscreen events page shrinks. At the same time, you will start to see Calendar’s Schedule list view (previous screen). In addition, it is paired with an animation that exhibits the inline event card.

In a nutshell, the predictive back feature is “coming soon in Android 14” and it will offer a “similar experience when [users] swipe within the app. Letting users know where the back is going to take them by leveraging default or custom animations.”

Moreover, you can rearrange the menu order of the Settings app or even hide some options that are not useful. Also, the Samsung account can be set to be viewed at the top. The app will also enable you to look for recently changed settings history, change notification settings, and do more at the dance of your fingertips.

Redmi Note 12 Pro+ Global version arrives on FCC, sans LTE Band 40 and 5G NR n40

Regardless, Google is now rolling back the testing. In addition, you can leave your feedback if you feel that the experience should remain free for everyone as it was.

In another case, maybe the company is testing the feature with a limited group of users. This way, it will only get some selected feedback. Apparently, the users are unable to sideload certain applications on their Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. Specifically, the 32-bit game and apps are getting failed to install. The prompt reads "isn't compatible with your phone". Moreover, this is despite the fact that the Pixel 7 still ships with 32-bit system libraries.

As with every Nord series smartphone, the OnePlus Nord N300 5G will be a budget offering with 5G network support. For the record, its predecessor is also the most affordable device from the company till now. Reportedly, the upcoming handset will be limited to the US. OnePlus 9RT in India joins OxygenOS 13 Open Beta program

After the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, the company is reaching out to the OnePlus 9RT with OxygenOS 13 Open Beta program. According to the official OnePlus community post, the update is available for users in India. While it will soon extend to other markets as well.

Known Issues

• Eye comfort mode cannot be activated in specific scenarios.


• After switching the system dynamic wallpaper, the time on the lock screen is displayed abnormally.

If you have made up your mind, download the official package and follow the below steps.

1. Copy the ROM upgrade package to the phone storage.


2. Go to Settings > About device > Version


3. Click on the build number 7 times and enter the password
   This will make you enter developer mode.


4. Go back Settings > About device > Up to date > Click the top right button > Local install > Click on the corresponding installation package > Extract > Upgrade > System upgrade completed to 100%.


5. After the upgrade is complete, click Restart.

In case the Android 13 beta is too buggy for your OnePlus 9RT, you can roll back to Android 12 via this package. After downloading, follow the above steps again. However, make sure to take a backup as this step will wipe away all your data.
